We needed a place to camp for two days before a family reunion in WV. My brother knew the owner of Broken Wheel Campground in Weston, WV and suggested we camp there.
Broken Wheel does not have full hookups but they do have a free dump service. So, with electric and water hookups, we camped at what we think is the best spot there…. Spot # 36.
We had this awesome view out the back of Tartaruga….
There was plenty of room to move around our camp site and setup our chairs outside. Each site came with a picnic table, trashcan setup, water and electric (together at the back of the spot) and a fire pit. West Virginia is one of the states that is very particular about firewood. Do not bring your own firewood into the State of West Virginia. Our site also had several really cool looking boulders/rocks to climb on.
This camp offers spaces for full timers, short term (like us) and tent sites. There is also storage space available.
When you first pull into the campground, there is a log cabin store to check in and get supplies. The bath house is located behind the building. There is a cute playground for kids nearby. Also nearby is a small stage area. They have events during the weekends. Karaoke the night we left.
This campground is pet friendly. As well as kid friendly. There was a family camping out in tents near us that walked to the playground area several times a day. The creek was just across the drive for most of the sites. It was a mere 20 steps away. My son would beg to go to the creek every time we came back to the camp site. He fell in the creek at least twice. I say “fell” but in reality, I am quite sure it was probably more voluntary than accident. Thank goodness Mike had installed an outdoor shower on TarTar! I finally gave Nick a plastic cup so he could go do some “collecting” in the creek.
You might be nervous when first pulling into the campground because you are facing some storage trailers that are a bit beat down. Please do not let that discourage you from staying here. The owner is a smart entrepreneur. He makes sure to use up all the spaces. Once you get to your site, it truly is a slice of Heaven.
This campground is beautifully landscaped. There are plantings everywhere and the lawns and sites are very well maintained. There is a good sized creek that runs throughout the property. Our son, Nick, played on the creek bed every chance he got. Our outdoor shower came in handy! Our dogs loved taking walks.
This is what camping is truly about. Being amongst nature. Our family highly recommends this campground!
